representative for EMPI, then out of Riverside, CA, noticed the large
influx of Volkswagen automobiles being sold in California. At that time
independent repair shops began to blossom in just about every
community and when they rebuilt engines only new components were
used. This created a large demand for rebuilt engine parts and a ready
made market; thus a new kind of automotive machine shop was formed
equipped with Berco crankshaft grinders, Sunnen connecting rod
equipment, etc. used exclusively for Volkswagen and Porsche
automobiles. Understandably there was no shortage of components to
rebuild as every shop had cores stashed away somewhere as they
previously installed only new components. The company was then
called Stamco Products with two locations; Lodi, CA and Buena Park,
CA. Both locations began supplying on a regular basis large quantities
of machine work to independent repair shops and VW dealers alike.
This journey continues and today many of our customers operate
the same repair shops we began supplying over 40 years ago but now
their sons run the shop. The volume is not near as large as it was in
our hay day but we still have many Volkswagen enthusiast around that
are purists and wish to restore their VW's as factory stock engines. For
the first time we now offer the rest of the country our products thru the
use of UPS, we also like to ship using the flat rate USPS boxes which in
many cases offers a savings.
